About this newsletter
I love recognizing patterns and identifying differences — in varying experiences, organizations, and structures — so much so that I bring these conceptual frameworks into my growing practice. What inspires people? Things that are interesting and different. But what about them makes them interesting and different?
Appropriately, I’ve always been particularly interested in the maintenance and destruction of status quos. From the sterile, detached suburb of Southern California in which I grew up, to the overwhelming diversity and chaos of New York City, to the emphasis of arts preservation and promotion in France — what systems within these respective cultures make them…the ways that they are?
Hyper Normal is a creative practice by Allison Chen, American designer and artist in New York City, Paris, and Los Angeles.
I talk about how I got started on this project here.
